Keep Hawaii's Heroes - sign the petition
I've been living in the Hawaii for the past 11 years and have come to love and care a lot for this State. I'm a big advocate for economic innovation and just about anything that boost economy or shaping it for a better future for my 10 children and their children etc.
Hawai‘i
plays an important strategic role for the US armed services, and the US
military presence in our state contributes enormously to our economy. It
is the second largest contributor (behind tourism) to our economic
well-being.
Beyond the direct impact, the presence of the military also
contributes to the growth of other segments of our economy, including the
research and technology innovation sectors. A large number of companies
have been started or set up shop in our state as direct result of research
programs funded by the federal government and Department of Defense.
That
means jobs… and a diversity of jobs that might otherwise not be available in
our state.
Today,
I’m asking you to consider taking part in an initiative to show our support of
our military in Hawai‘i’s and to keep our island economy healthy and growing.
The
Army is in the late stages of deciding how to implement a downsizing of troops
and bases throughout the country. It is considering a proposal to remove
19,800 Army personnel and 30,000 of their family members from O‘ahu.
These proposed cuts would have a severe financial impact on our state,
especially in the communities of Wahiawa, Waialua, Schofield, Mililani and
Kunia. The loss to our local economy is estimated to be $1.35 billion and
would affect every sector of our economy.
"Keep Hawaii's Heroes" is an effort dedicated to saving our communities
from the downsizing of Schofield Barracks and Fort Shafter. Please show your
support by signing the online petition.
We will also have hard
copies of the petition available at all American Savings Bank branches, in our Financial Plaza and also our Mililani Center. Please
share this information with your friends and family.
Together,
we can show the Army ‘ohana our Aloha and send a clear message that we want to
Keep Hawaii's Heroes.
