Supporting Polynesian Voyaging Society Voyage - March 24 to April 19th

There are many things I love about my employer (I just dislike the work I have to do blah) - one of these things is the fact that they give so much back to the community and help out whereever and whenever they can.

At American Savins Bank, we are a proud community supporter of the Polynesian Voyaging Society’s Worldwide Voyage or Mālama Honua, which is bringing together organizations and individuals dedicated to the transformation of education and demonstrating the powerful learning that happens when education is community based.

From Monday, March 24, 2014 through Saturday, April 19, 2014, our branches will be showcasing images of the Hōkūle‘a.  Additionally, we will be accepting donations for the Mālama Honua.  For each donation $25 or more, American Savings will provide each donor with a complimentary eco-bag displaying the voyage route.

"In May of this year, the Hōkūle‘a and sister canoe, Hikianalia, will embark on a 4 year journey around the world to spread their mission – to navigate toward a healthy and sustainable future for ourselves, our home – the Hawaiian Islands – and our Island Earth through voyaging and new ways of learning. Our core message is to mālama (care for) Island Earth – our natural environment, children and all humankind.

Currently, our compass – and indeed the worlds – points toward an unsustainable future. However, as on a canoe, our ability to survive is directly dependent on our ability to help each other. By bringing together and working with scientists, educators, policy makers, business leaders and concerned citizens, we believe Hawai‘i can one day become a model of social and environmental responsibility to the world."
